Ohio State misses out on top rated defensive lineman

[ad_1]

All signs seemed to point to Ohio State landing another one of the country’s top-ranked defensive linemen on Monday, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Thought to be a heavy OSU lean, Marquise Lightfoot, out of Chicago, committed to the Miami Hurricanes instead. At 6-foot, 5-inches, and 220 pounds, Lightfoot is ranked as the No. 6 edge rusher and 67th overall prospect in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

It’s a bit of a hit to a class that is shaping up to potentially be one of the best in the history of the Ohio State program, but that is lessened a bit by the somewhat unexpected news of the commitment of defensive linemen Justin Scott on Sunday.

As it stands, the Buckeyes still have a total of 17 commitments that have given their pledge to the program for 2024, and there are still rumblings out there that more high-profile targets could enter the fold in the upcoming weeks and months.

We’ll keep you posted on any further developing news in the unpredictable and somewhat variable nature of big-time college football recruiting.
